These are refractories used for giving shape in the furnace. They are formed by casting and lining furnaces, kilns, etc. Castables come in different varieties with varied use of applications. Lightweight castables are formed with the help of porous lightweight materials and hydraulic cement. It is mixed with water and formed by casting.

Gunning Mass come in powder form that are primarily sprayed on the surface by a gun. Whereas, Ramming Mass are granular refractories that are strengthened by gunning formulation of a ceramic bond after heating. They are used for hot repair of the furnace and preparation of induction furnace melting crucible. These have less plasticity and are installed by an air rammer.
